What project did you pitch at Film Pitch ATL, and what inspired it?
Dare 2 Struggle (Reloaded Raw). It was inspired by the life and work of my mentor and great patronage known as Dr. Mutulu Shakur
What was the pitch experience like for you? (Was it nerve-wracking, exciting, energizing?)
It was an exciting experience as well as truly educational.
How did feedback from panelists help you?
The feedback allowed for me to truly comprehend that I had a project that was worthy of being brought to the world, via the big screen.
What’s happened with your project or career since the event?
Since the event the project has been picked up and slated by a Film / Television executive. My career has picked up speed to the point of being fortunate to secure funding for another film, that I am currently in pre – production on.
What are you working on now—and how/ where can people support or follow your work?
I am currently working on a feature film entitled Black Velvet, in addition to being a Music Supervisor on a production house slate of projects ranging from TV shows to feature films. Lastly, I am winding up a course that I teach pertaining to the music business. I can be supported by following my social media pages or doing that as well as reaching out to me in an effort to connect some dots. Any advice for someone thinking about pitching at a future Film Pitch ATL?
Be thorough in your understanding of your project, because the way you pitch from a place of ‘Knowing’ your topic is entirely different from a place of uncertainty.
What’s one thing you learned or took away from the event?
Keep going.
How did the feedback help you grow or shift your thinking?
The feedback motivated the passion that was already there.
Did you meet anyone at the event that you ended up working with or learning from?
Unfornately I did not.
What would you tell someone who’s nervous about applying to pitch?
Do it. You can live with trial and error, but regrets will make your life miserable.
If you could pitch again, is there anything you’d do differently?
Nope.
Is there anything you’d love to see more of at Film Pitch ATL in the future?
More funding opportunities, even if it’s just people who can write Grants for the Pitchers, or lead them to Grants.
